Ellis County Museum was organized in 1968 and is dedicated to preserving the history of Ellis County. The museum also includes the Heritage Visitor Center, and is housed in an 1889 building in downtown Waxahachie across the street from the Ellis County Courthouse.
  
Other attractions and things to see and do in Ellis County include the Gingerbread Home Tour, the Sims Library, the Scarborough Renaissance Festival, Screams Halloween Theme Park, the Ellis County Museum and Art Museum, Ellis County Trade Days and many others.
  
Area educational needs are met by 11 public schools and 2 private schools. Higher education is provided by the private Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Nearby opportunities include Mountain View College, Dallas Baptist University, Southern Methodist University, El Centro College, the University of Texas at Arlington, the University of Dallas and Eastfield College.
  
Area health care needs are served by Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie, as well as a variety of health care facilities in nearby communities and Ellis County.
