Waxahachie, the seat of
Ellis County, preserves the spirit of turn-of-the-century Texas
through its structures as well as the old-fashioned hospitality of its
citizens. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and is served
by I-35E, U.S. Highways 77 and 287, and State Highways 66, 813, 877,
878 and 879.
Waxahachie was incorporated in 1871, but was already a thriving
community. The arrival of the first railroad in 1879 assured even more
growth and prosperity.
Ellis County Museum was organized in 1968 and is dedicated to
preserving the history of Ellis County. The museum also includes the
Heritage Visitor Center, and is housed in an 1889 building in downtown
Waxahachie across the street from the Ellis County Courthouse.
